Jules Astaire
The Jules Astaire’s Variety Hour (JAVH) is a boundary-pushing Drag King show created, written, directed, produced, and performed by Orrie Rindal, alongside a revolving cast of fierce and fabulous artists from DePaul University and the greater Chicago scene.
Born out of a desire for more under-21 and unique drag spaces the show blends camp, satire, music, sketch, and social commentary into an electrifying theatrical experience. It is a safe space where new-to-drag audiences and performers alike can interact with drag in a welcoming environment. It’s become an underground favorite at the legendary Annoyance Theatre and a growing sensation on social media.
Orrie designed JAVH as a space where joy and rebellion collide—where underserved voices are amplified, and absurdity becomes a tool for healing. Whether it’s taking on pop culture, politics, or the heartbreak of just being human, every show is a wild ride full of laughter, chaos, and heart.
Think of it as a jolt to the system—followed by a giant hug. Because sometimes, the best way to face the world is with a wink, a mustache, a mic and a smile.
